APX PARACHUTE TECHNOLOGY

HIGH TECH FABRICS

Several types of fabrics are available on today’s market. We use nylon fabric as light as 15gr/mq or up to 40gr/mq Kevlar for special purpose parachutes. From near zero porosity up to 1000. Almost all colors available.

SEWING

All parachutes are sewed with professional machine. All stitches are controlled in QC before delivery.

Depending on the size, the stitching might be single, double or triple.

LINE AND HARNESS

High technology and special material line are used on APX parachute. From high strength material like Dyneema, through high temperature material like Kevlar.

Each parachute comes with the right harness for the right use.

RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND TYPES

Here at APX we keep studying and developing new types of parachutes all the times. We always point on higher quality, lower prices and higher technology.

We are now able to produce parachute up to 5mt in diameter. We are open to new and crazy project around the world.

Starting from 2020, APX developed a standard parachute for CANSAT competition. Thanks to the cooperation with the main CANSAT organization in Europe, we create the smallest and lighter parachute ever.

Designed to be as small and light as possible, easier to pack, low side oscillation, fast opening, high Cd. Other types are available upon request if needed.

CANSAT competition parachute

Official parachute for CANSAT Europe. Made from lightweight nylon, micro lines

  • Type: Modified cross parachute
  • Weight: 15gr +/- 3gr
  • Fabric: Ultra low weight and low permeability nylon
  • Line: 0,6mm high strenght line – brake load 70kg each line
  • Max Load: 350gr
  • Descent Speed at max load: 10m/s (for EU cansat rules the descent speed cannot be lower than 6m/s and not higher than 12m/s. Best speed range from 8 to 11m/s)

APX PARACHUTE FAQ

What is the Cd and how it is measured?

When we talk about Cd we mean the Cd-So, where So is the canopy real area. Many manufacturers try to show extremely high Cd using the Cd-Sp, where Sp is the projected surface. If not specifically expressed, when you see crazy high Cd they are referring to Cd-Sp instead of Cd-So.

Be aware if you find Cd higher than 1.5, they are cheating.

Just for reference, the Cd of a cross parachute range from 0.60 to 0.78. For an extended skirt parachute up to 0.92

What is the Cx?

The Cx is the Opening Load Factor. The higher the number, the higher the load when the parachute open. A higher number means higher stress on the system. There are several ways to minimize the stress on the canopy, line, harness and payload.

How can I reduce the packing size?

The main problem with the packing size is the air trapped between the fabric fold. Just for your reference, the Apollo11 parachute was packed under several tons of pressure. Read the manual to know the best folding and packing rules. Just keep in mind that less air trapped means less package.

How to attach the parachute to my payload?

Every parachute is built with a specific harness. We can customize the canopy to your needs.
